# Restaurant waitlist apps, compared

How the major restaurant waitlist and reservation systems differ — Yelp Waitlist, Waitwhile, Dojo, and the rest — and what that means for joining remotely.

Restaurants use a handful of different systems to manage walk-in waitlists. They look similar to a diner, but differ in whether you can join before you arrive, and from how far away.

## Yelp Waitlist

Widely used across North America. A restaurant's Yelp page shows a "Join Waitlist" button when the list is open, along with an estimated wait. Yelp also exposes an official Waitlist Partner API (status, info and join endpoints) that other apps — including, eventually, Queue Ahead's own live-status checks — can integrate against with the restaurant's permission.

## Dojo

Common in the UK. Dojo's restaurant queueing is primarily an in-app flow, though a standalone web join URL pattern exists for some venues. Where only the in-app flow is confirmed, Queue Ahead links to the venue's own page describing how to join rather than guessing a URL.

## Waitwhile

A general-purpose waitlist and appointment platform used across restaurants, retail, and services — not restaurant-specific. Waitwhile pages are usually branded per-venue rather than under a shared Waitwhile domain.

## Bespoke / in-house systems

Many venues — especially museums, attractions and government offices — run a one-off ticketing or appointment system built for them specifically, rather than a named third-party product. Queue Ahead files these under a generic "bespoke" provider rather than inventing a brand name for them.

## What this means for you

If you're comparing apps rather than looking for one specific restaurant: the provider mostly matters for whether you can join remotely at all, and from how far away. It rarely changes what happens once you're on the list — you still get a notification and a window to show up.
